This Father’s Day, we’re celebrating the dads, stepdads and father figures across HLB Mann Judd who balance rewarding careers with the moments that matter most.
In this blog, Will, a Corporate Advisory Manager in Sydney, shares how becoming a stepparent and training for endurance events fits alongside his career, while Rémi, an Assistant Manager in Tax Advisory in Perth, reflects on raising two young sons and the importance of making time for family.
Together, they share how HLB’s flexible and supportive culture helps them thrive both professionally and personally.
Tell us a little about yourself
Will: I’ve been with HLB Mann Judd Sydney for two and a half years as a Corporate Advisory Manager, working closely with clients on M&A, due diligence and valuations. One of the things I enjoy most is helping clients navigate significant milestones, whether that’s supporting a family business through a sale or advising on a major acquisition. Seeing the impact of our advice and building long-term relationships is incredibly rewarding.
At home, I live with my fiancée, Elise (who also works at HLB), and her children, Isla and Carter. Becoming a stepparent has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It didn’t take long for the kids to catch my love of sport, with cricket becoming their favourite – although I’m still working on convincing them to support England! Carter has recently started golf lessons and is loving them, while Isla would much rather curl up with her latest book.
I’m a keen runner and Elise and I recently completed the Gold Coast Marathon together. I’m now training for the Melbourne Marathon and the Bondi to Manly Ultra, so weekends are usually spent clocking up kilometres before heading to the beach for a swim or squeezing in a round of golf.
Rémi: I’ve worked at HLB Mann Judd Perth in the Tax Advisory division for just over two years, mostly working on GST and corporate tax matters. I love learning about how different clients and businesses operate, and I find it just as rewarding to explain complex tax concepts in a way that makes sense to non-tax specialists as I do finding the solution to the tax issue itself.
I’m the proud dad of two energetic boys, Émile (7) and Étienne (5). They keep me busy outside of work, and we spend as much time as possible outdoors. They love anything sport-related, especially cricket, soccer and rugby. I introduced the boys to Rugby Union last year and was soon asked to coach their team. One of my favourite parts of coaching is being on the field to celebrate their tries, not just watching from the sidelines. Rugby has been part of my family for the last 70 years, and the boys are the fourth generation of aspiring rugby players. I’m grateful to my father and grandfathers for sharing their love of the game with me, and it’s special to now pass that on to my sons.
How has the firm supported you?
Will: As a stepparent, being present for my family is incredibly important. HLB’s flexible working arrangements mean I can be there for school pick-ups, sporting events and everyday family moments while continuing to deliver great outcomes for clients. It’s a culture built on trust, and I really value working somewhere that recognises people do their best work when they have balance.
Rémi: I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from the HLB Perth team, in particular, tax partners Gaurav Chitnis and Guy Brandon. Their mentoring and advice have helped me grow both professionally and personally. Also, the firm’s flexible working arrangements give me the balance to provide great service to my clients while still being present for the moments that matter most, whether that’s school pick-up, sports days or simply spending quality time with my boys.
How are you planning to spend Father’s Day?
Will: I’m hoping to wake up to fresh pancakes and coffee made by the kids, followed by some games in the park and a walk to a pub by the water for lunch. For me, it’s the simple days spent together that end up being the most memorable.
Rémi: I love spending my downtime playing golf and, luckily for me, both my sons have recently started learning to play, too. We’ll be spending Father’s Day out on the course together, joined by my own father, which makes it even more special. It’s not often we get three generations together, so I’m really looking forward to it.
