AI in Practice: What NFP Boards and Leaders Need to Know

Date: 22nd September 2026
Time: 7:00am - 9:00am
Location: Noah's at the Beach
RSVP Date: 31st August 2026

HLB Mann Judd, Jenkins Legal & Advisory and Aon Insurance are proud to partner again to host the second forum in our three-part series, The NFP Future Ready Series – Governance, Risk & Growth, and you’re invited to attend.

Artificial Intelligence is quickly moving from theory to everyday use. For not-for-profit organisations, the question is no longer if AI will be used – but how it should be governed, managed, and understood at Board and leadership level.

This breakfast session brings together practical perspectives across governance, legal, insurance, and technology. The focus is simple: what this means for you, your Board, and your organisation today – and what to prepare for next.

You’ll hear real examples, common pitfalls, and clear guidance to help you approach AI with confidence.

Who should attend
  • NFP Board and Committee members
  • CEOs, CFOs, and Finance Managers
  • Operations, Risk, People, and Governance leads

What we’ll cover

AI in the Boardroom – governance, oversight and control

Jacob Medel from HLB Mann Judd, will share practical insights into how Boards are approaching AI, including governance considerations, internal controls, and what we are seeing through IT controls audits and external research.

AI, evidence, and employment governance – is your organisation ready?

Emily Plaza from Jenkins Legal & Advisory, will outline how Artificial Intelligence is changing the employment law landscape by making it easier for employees to prepare more sophisticated grievances, unfair dismissal claims, general protections claims, and workplace complaints. Emily will discuss:

  • how AI is changing the quality and presentation of employment claims;
  • why clear records and fair decision making processes matter;
  • litigation readiness as a governance issue; and
  • practical questions boards should be asking management.

AI claims in practice – how policies have responded

Drew Trahms from Aon will share examples of AI-related claims and how insurance policies have applied in practice. While much of the AI conversation appropriately focuses on tools and governance frameworks, Aon will focus on what happens when things go wrong. Using real-world claims, trends, and AI-related loss scenarios, she will explore how boards and leadership teams can strengthen governance, quantify emerging risks, and make more informed decisions about resilience, insurance, and risk transfer in an increasingly AI-enabled world.

AI update – what’s coming and what’s already in use

Michael Graham from Cutcher & Neale will provide a practical look at how AI is being used today, from conversational assistants such as Copilot, Claude and ChatGPT, through to AI embedded within applications like Excel and business systems, and what organisations should be watching as these capabilities rapidly evolve.

What you’ll take away
  • Clear, practical insight into how AI is being used today – and what it means for governance, risk, and decision-making.
  • A better understanding of where the real risks sit, and how organisations are responding in practice.
  • Confidence to ask the right questions at Board and leadership level.
