Following our communication earlier in the year regarding the introduction of the Director Identification Number (DIN) further information has now been released.
Who does this apply to?
Director ID only applies to companies and corporate bodies registered under the Corporations Act and CATSI Act.
Director ID does not apply to sole traders, partnerships or trusts unless the trust has a corporate trustee.
For Profit entities
The deadline for applying for a DIN under the Corporations Act has now been confirmed and is summarised in the following table:
Not for Profit entities
Entities registered under the ACNC Act could be one of the following:
- Private companies including corporate trustees
- Public companies including public companies limited by guarantee
Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act)
All directors need to apply for their own DIN which can be done from 1 November 2021.
How to apply for your DIN
There are three ways to apply for a DIN:
- Online application via the myGovID app. This is different to myGov and is the quickest way to obtain a DIN.
- Phone application.
- Paper application (which is the slowest process).
All methods require proof of identity documents, however certified copies are also required if using the paper application option.
Further details on the application process can be found here.
