While the third quarter of FY2020 has seen a decrease in the number of transactions completed in Australia, the average deal value has increased. The end of the quarter saw the beginnings of the COVID-19 pandemic and its full impact on the M&A deal values is still unknown. There remains an appetite for investment, however there may be difficulties in aligning vendor and acquirer value expectations.

Based on the published transaction data for Q3 FY2020, there were 222 deals completed compared to 246 in Q3 FY2019, a decrease of 10%. In the following analysis we have excluded transactions with a gross transaction value greater than $5 billion.
